Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a climate-controlled storage unit?
If you're storing items long-term, or anything sensitive to temperature and humidity — furniture, electronics, photos, documents, antiques, musical instruments — climate control is worth it. Vermont's winters and humid summers can warp wood, corrode electronics, and encourage mold in a standard unit. All of Harbor View's units are indoor and climate-controlled, so you don't have to choose between coverage and convenience.

What's the difference between climate-controlled and regular storage?
A standard storage unit is exposed to whatever the outside temperature and humidity happen to be. A climate-controlled unit is kept within a steadier range year-round, protecting your belongings from the freeze-thaw cycles and humidity swings that are common in the Champlain Valley.

What size storage unit do I need?
It depends on what you're storing — a 9x9 unit comfortably fits the contents of a couple of bedrooms, while storage units in the 24x11 to 16x16 range can hold a fully furnished 3-bedroom home, including large furniture and appliances. See our Size Guide or call us and we'll help you match your unit to your space.

How much does a storage unit cost in South Burlington, VT?
Pricing depends on unit size — Harbor View's climate-controlled units currently range from around $139/month for smaller units up to $470/month for our largest Platinum sections. All units are reserved with a refundable $25 deposit that's credited to your first month's rent.

Is there a minimum rental period?
Yes — all rentals have a 2-month minimum. This helps us keep pricing consistent for month-to-month renters without short-term turnover costs.

How do I reserve a unit?
Reserve online with a $25 deposit, which holds your unit for 7 days and is applied to your first month's rent. If the unit isn't rented within 7 days, the reservation is released.

Can I visit the facility before renting?
First-time visits are by appointment only, so we can give you our full attention during your tour and move-in. Once you've reserved a unit online, just call or email us to schedule your visit and move-in date.

Are Harbor View's units really indoor?
Yes — every unit at Harbor View is indoor and climate-controlled. There are no outdoor or drive-up-only units at this facility.

How secure is the facility?
The facility is monitored with digital video surveillance, and access is designed to keep your belongings safe between visits.

Can I pay my bill online?
Yes — Harbor View offers online account management and bill pay, so you can handle your rental 24/7 from your phone or computer.

What items shouldn't go in climate-controlled storage?
Hazardous materials, perishables, and flammable liquids should never be stored in any unit, climate-controlled or not. Beyond that, nearly everything — furniture, electronics, documents, seasonal gear, antiques — benefits from a climate-controlled environment.
